The Nakatsugū is located on the island of Ōshima, 7km off the shore of Kyūshū. It is dedicated to Tagitsuhime-no-kami.

On the other side of "Amanogawa", and the path, is the Kengyū shrine. Kengyū is Hikoboshi in the Tanabata legend. Nakatsugū is said to be where the Tanabata legend originated, and every Tanabata in the lunar calendar a festival is held in Nakatsugū.

The three Munakata goddesses were born during the trial between Amaterasu-ōmikami and Susanō-no-mikoto, which took place at Amanomanai in the heavens. The well was named after the Amanomanai.
