Summary
Kashīgū is a shrine located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka city, Fukuoka prefecture. It is a shrine dedicated for Emperor Chūai and Empress Jingū, and is one of the 16 shrines which an imperial envoy, "Chokushi", is sent to perform rituals once in ten years.
Kashīgū has a unique history, as it was founded as a mausoleum called "Kashībyō", for Emperor Chūai, who died on the way to defeat the Kumaso. The origin of Kashīgū is said to be a small shrine built by Empress Jingū, and later, Empress Jingū became deified together. The honden, which is classified as an Important Cultural Property, is in an unique architectural style called "Kashī-zukuri".
Kashīgū is also known for various flowers blooming from spring to early summer, such as 2000 Irises and 1600 azaleas.
