Where the arbor is is the remains of the Yakushidō. When this trail was the main route to the shrine, the Yakushidō was a resthouse and a first-aid station. A Yakushidō is a Buddha hall housing a statue of Yakushi Nyorai, who is the Buddha of healing and medicine.

Beside the remains of the Yakushidō is a stone memorial built when the total number of travelers who lodged at the Yakushidō reached 3000 in 1772. Women who weren't able to climb the mountain, and those who couldn't continue climbing due to snow or illness were able to lodge at the Yakushidō for free.

A usual torī carries a shingaku only on oneside. But this torī is an entrance to the shrine from the Omotesandō route, and at the same time, an entrance to the Yōhaiden from the shrine, so it has a shingaku on both sides.
