A memorandum of facts about shrines visited. Shikaumi shrine is a shrine dedicated for the presiding gods of the seas, the Three Watatsumi gods, located on the island of Shikanoshima. It is the head shrine of all Wadatsumi shrines around Japan.
Shikaumi shrine is a shrine located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka city, Fukuoka prefecture, on the island of Shikanoshima, at the mouth of Hakata Bay. It is dedicated for the Three Watatsumi gods, those are the presiding gods of the sea, and had been worshipped as the Grand Guardian Gods of Hakata bay, which had been a key point of marine traffic since ancient times. It is the head shrine of all the Watatsumi shrines and Kai shrines around Japan. Also, since the Three Watatsumi gods appeared during ritual purification, they are believed to be gods those purify all kinds of impurity and misfortunes.
