Summary

Dazaifu Tenmangū is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, who is known to be the god of learning, located in Dazaifu city, Fukuoka prefecture. It is the head shrine of 12 thousand Tenmangū shrines around Japan, along with Kitano Tenmangū in Kyōto, and is built over the grave of Sugawara no Michizane.

In New year, more than 2 million visitors visit Dazaifu Tenmangū for Hatsumōde, the first shrine visit of the year, and more than 8 million in a year. Not only tourists visit the shrine but also many students visit to pray for success in entrance examinations.

Dazaifu Tenmangū is also known for various flowers blooming from season to season, such as Irises, Chrysanthemums, Maples and especially Plum blossoms
