Story

Yakumo upwelling

After defeating the Yamata-no-orochi, Susanō-no-mikoto came to Suga, looking for a place to build his palace. There, he said that he felt refreshed when he came here and built his palace here, and lived here with Kushinadahime, changed back from a comb.

When he built the palace, clouds upwelled. Seeing this, Susanō-no-mikoto composed a poem. Yakumo are upwelling, it is a cloud like an eightfold fence upwelling in Izumo. Building an eightfold to have my new wife stay in the house. That eightfold fence. This is said to be the first waka.

Susanō-no-mikoto also summoned Ashinazuchi and appointed him as the head of his palace, gave him the name Inadanomiyanushisuganoyatsumimi-no-kami.

Descendants of Susanō-no-mikoto

Susanō-no-mikoto and Kushinadahime gave birth to Yashimajinumi-no-kami. And also, Susanō-no-mikoto begot Ōtoshi-no-kami and Ukanomitama-no-kami between Kamuōichihime, a daughter of Ōyamatsumi-no-kami.

Yashimajinumi-no-kami married Konohanachiruhime, a daughter of Ōyamatsumi-no-kami, and their child is Fuhanomojikusunu-no-kami.

Fuhanomojikusunu-no-kami married Hikawahime, a daughter of Ōkami-no-kami, and their child is Fukafuchinomizuyarehana-no-kami.

Fukafuchinomizuyarehana-no-kami married Amenotsudohechine-no-kami, and their child is Omizunu-no-kami.

Omizunu-no-kami married Futemimi-no-kami, a daughter of Funozuno-no-kami, and their child is Amenofuyukinu-no-kami.

Amenofuyukinu-no-kami married Sashikuniwakahime, a daughter of Sashikuniō-no-kami, and their child is Ōkuninushi-no-kami. Ōkuninushi-no-kami has five names. His other names are Ōnamuchi-no-kami, Ashiharashikō-no-kami, Utsushikunitama-no-kami and Yachihoko-no-kami.
